The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Edo South Coalition of Technical and Support Group on Thursday held a meeting in Benin City to discuss the perfect strategies to win the 2024 Edo governorship election.
The meeting was attended by Osarodion Ogie, the running mate to PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, and other key members of the party.
The discussions at the meeting centred around how the PDP would be victorious in the upcoming election. The groups vowed to do what is legitimately necessary to mobilize voters and win the election. To achieve this, they came up with two platforms or guidelines, classified as platform A and B, with the target of twenty new members who will vote for the PDP candidate during the election.
Additionally, the coalition plans to recruit five security personnel to oversee each polling unit during the election. These people will monitor the security situation and escort the INEC presiding officer to the collation centre after the count of the ballot at the unit and ward level to the local government collation center and finally to the State capital, Benin City.
Osarodion Ogie, addressing the attendees, urged the strategy groups to go all out to canvass for new members. He encouraged them to see the exercise as a family business and to use their qualities to engage with people from all walks of life. He also shared how he set up the Osarodion Ogie Zone in his compound to assist in canvassing for new members.
According to him: “I want you all to see this excercise as a family business. You all know the qualities of our governorship candidate, his charisma, engagement with the people so far. So, go all out to canverse in the market place, that small church in your area, visit them, your pastors, transporters in your areas, talk to them. Don’t forget the artisans, the roadside mechanic at his workshop. Continue to engage them until the PDP’s candidate is declared winner.
“I am also a canverser in this excercise because in my compound where I live, I have setup Osarodion Ogie Zone which I have handed over to my sister to assist in canvsersing for new members. You know, I am a very busy person. I cannot be everywhere.”He said.
The high point of the strategy meeting was the launch of the Unit Canvasser’s Notebook for members to monitor their election canvassing activities, with a target time of the end of June 2024. The coalition also plans to appoint new leaders to head the newly created groups.
The PDP has been working hard to win the 2024 Edo governorship election, and this recent meeting shows their determination to do what it takes to achieve victory. With the launch of the Unit Canvasser’s Notebook and the recruitment of security personnel, the PDP is taking proactive steps to ensure that the election is free and fair.
The coalition’s plan to use two platforms to heavily mobilize voters highlights the importance of effective communication and outreach. By targeting twenty new members through platform A and B, the PDP hopes to increase their chances of winning the election.
The recruitment of security personnel is also a crucial step in ensuring that the election is peaceful and free from violence. The PDP is committed to working with INEC and other stakeholders to ensure that the election is transparent and credible.
The launch of the Unit Canvasser’s Notebook is a significant development that will help members to monitor their activities and ensure that they are on track to achieve their targets. This, according to them, will also help to improve accountability and transparency within the party.
