Nigerian content creator Samuel Adegbeyi, popularly known as Baami, has opened up on the painful experiences, financial crisis and emotional struggles that preceded his rise to social media fame.
Baami revealed that he once borrowed ₦30,000 from a digital loan app to help his then-girlfriend start a business, only for the relationship to collapse shortly after she received the money.
According to the skit maker, his inability to repay the loan on time caused the debt to balloon to more than ₦300,000, plunging him into severe financial hardship and depression.
The crisis also disrupted his education, forcing him to lose a year during his HND programme.
Speaking about his early life, Baami disclosed that he lost his father in 2009 while he was still in secondary school, after which he faced neglect, displacement and discrimination linked to his physical disability.
Despite the difficulties, he had aspired to become a chartered accountant and remained committed to his education until the financial crisis dramatically altered his trajectory.
His fortunes, however, began to change in 2024, when his manager encouraged him to explore content creation on TikTok and Facebook.
Baami embraced skit-making and live streaming, gradually building a formidable online presence and collaborating with established creators including Oluwadolarz, Nasboi, Shank and Cute Abiola.
Today, he has reportedly amassed more than 1.3 million followers on Facebook and built a growing international audience.
Baami’s story is a striking account of how heartbreak, crushing debt and personal adversity nearly derailed his ambitions — but ultimately became part of the journey that propelled him into the limelight.
