Mass resignations hits Rivers Govt as crisis spirals

There has been a mass resignation of officials from the Rivers State Government due to the ongoing crisis in the Niger Delta State. The conflict began when the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, fell out of favour with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the FCT Minister.
The crisis has since escalated, with the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Prince Mmom, being the most recent to resign from the government’s service. Many other commissioners have resigned from the State Executive Council, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zaccheaus Adangor.
In a joint statement, a coalition has called for peace and de-escalation of political tension to allow for the effective delivery of democracy to the people.
The coalition also urged the governor to pay attention to critical areas that deal with UN Millennium Development Goals like education, health, eradication of poverty and hunger, water and sanitation, climate action, peace, etc.
