Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
The squad includes team captain William Ekong, standout forward Ademola Lookman, and in-form winger Moses Simon, alongside 20 other top-tier players.
The roster boasts a balanced mix of seasoned professionals and fresh talents, with notable inclusions being wing-backs Olaoluwa Aina and Bruno Onyemaechi, and goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye.
Defenders Oluwasemilogo Ajayi and Calvin Bassey, midfield generals Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, and Alex Iwobi, as well as forwards Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze, round out a formidable squad ready to face the Libyan challenge.
One significant omission from the team is reigning African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined due to injury. Another absentee is South Africa-based centre-back Olisa Ndah, but the squad sees the return of versatile defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, who missed the last qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
In addition, creative playmaker Chidera Ejuke makes his much-anticipated return to the national team after a lengthy absence.
Veteran forward Kelechi Iheanacho is also named, alongside midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, and Frank Onyeka.
The Super Eagles are set to host Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 11th October, before traveling to Benghazi for the return leg on Tuesday, 15th October at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium.
