The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, with its prestigious Man of the Year 2026 Award, recognising his efforts in strengthening collaboration between the nation’s security agencies and the media.
Speaking after receiving the award, Ajayi described the recognition as a testament to the growing partnership between the DSS and the media, stressing that national security thrives when security institutions and journalists work together in the public interest.
The DSS Director-General said the honour was not merely a personal achievement but an acknowledgment of the agency’s commitment to fostering transparency, mutual trust, and constructive engagement with media practitioners across the country.
According to him, the relationship between the security community and the press has continued to improve, creating a platform for responsible information sharing that supports peace, stability, and national development.
Ajayi reaffirmed the DSS’s resolve to deepen cooperation with the media while urging journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and ethical standards in reporting security-related issues.
He noted that responsible journalism remains a vital tool in combating misinformation, promoting public confidence, and strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
The NUJ conferred the Man of the Year 2026 Award on the DSS chief in recognition of his leadership and contributions towards enhancing security-media collaboration, a partnership widely regarded as crucial to safeguarding the nation’s democratic and security interests.
