The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs allegedly loyal to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in an overnight raid.
The arrests, made just ahead of the upcoming elections, occurred in two different locations in Edo State.
In a statement released on its official Facebook page, the police detailed the successful operation, which led to the apprehension of Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, both PDP members. Obanor was arrested in Oredo Ward 4 at around 9 p.m., while Tajudeen was apprehended in Igara Akoko, Edo.
According to the police, both men were found with firearms, including three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols discovered in Obanor’s possession and a locally made gun recovered from Tajudeen. The operation was based on intelligence reports that suggested the duo had been armed to disrupt the upcoming election.
This operation is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader efforts to ensure a peaceful election process in Edo State. Speaking on the arrests, the police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that any illegal arms bearers or individuals attempting to incite violence would be dealt with decisively.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges accordingly. The Police Force is urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities, underscoring its dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
The public is encouraged to cooperate fully with security forces to ensure a smooth electoral process in the state.
