The race for the Rivers State governorship in 2027 is gathering momentum, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listing 19 candidates ahead of the highly anticipated election.
Among the governorship hopefuls are Kingsley Chinda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gabriel Pidomson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Dumo Lulu-Briggs of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The three candidates are listed alongside 16 others, bringing the total number of contenders identified by the electoral commission to 19.
The emerging list signals an intensifying political contest in Rivers State as parties and aspirants position themselves for the battle to control the state government in 2027.
With 19 candidates in the picture, the election is shaping up to be a competitive contest, with political alliances, party strategies and competing policy agendas likely to influence the campaign.
However, the listing of the candidates does not, on its own, establish that all have received final clearance to contest the election.
