Three lawmakers aligned with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have resumed legislative duties at the Rivers State House of Assembly amid renewed reconciliation efforts between the governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The returning lawmakers are Victor Oko-Jumbo, representing Bonny Constituency; Sokari Goodboy Sokari, representing Ahoada West Constituency; and Timothy Oruibienimigha, representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency.
Their return followed the Assembly’s decision to reverse its earlier declaration of their seats as vacant after the lawmakers appealed to the House and explained their prolonged absence from legislative sittings.
The development comes against the backdrop of renewed reconciliation efforts between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, whose political differences have fuelled a prolonged crisis in Rivers State.
The lawmakers’ resumption is expected to ease tensions within the legislature and restore representation for their respective constituencies.
Although the move has raised hopes of improved cooperation between rival political camps, the durability of the reconciliation will depend on sustained dialogue and a commitment to resolving outstanding disputes.
The latest development marks a fresh turn in Rivers State’s political crisis, with attention now focused on whether the rapprochement between Wike and Fubara will translate into lasting stability in the state’s legislature and government.
