A 29-year-old graduate of Sociology from Kogi State University, identified as Blessing Moshood, has been allegedly murdered, with her body discovered inside a canal in Jikwoyi area of Abuja.

The tragic incident has thrown the family of the deceased into mourning after she reportedly left home on Thursday night and never returned.

Speaking on the incident, Blessing’s sister, Abigail Moshood, disclosed that the deceased stepped out around 8pm after receiving a phone call from an unidentified person.

According to her, Blessing later contacted the family about an hour later, informing them that she would briefly return home to pick up her phone charger which she had forgotten.

However, the family became alarmed after all efforts to reach her failed and she did not return home the following day.

Abigail said the family’s worst fears were confirmed after residents began discussing the discovery of a woman’s corpse inside a canal in Jikwoyi.

“We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the hairstyle she had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.

Further details obtained by this online newspaper revealed that the deceased’s body was allegedly found half-naked, wearing only a top, before officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station evacuated the corpse to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Abigail added that she later visited the police station where officers reportedly showed her photographs of the deceased, confirming the heartbreaking discovery.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing were ongoing.
