The Edo State government is set to prosecute contractors of the poorly constructed 200 meters road and drainage control of Lawani Street in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the State.
The State Deputy governor, Hon. Philips Shaibu made this known during the inspection tour of the project on Tuesday.
He said that the set standard and specification for the project must be met, the risk and consequences of doing a different thing would be meted on such contractors and facilitators, added that roads were not like fashion that could be changed annually.
Speaking further, the Deputy Governor noted that the impact of rain and road users was already telling on the just constructed road and drainage, he questioned the facilitator, Peter Akpatason if he was proud of the poor job done.
He added: “Edo State Government will immediately swung into action to construct a standard road with the state’s specifications for the people of Lawani street”.
The Deputy Governor stated that the N65million emergency funds allegedly expended as a Constituency project on Lawani street must be probed.
He noted that the state government is exploring the option of suing contractors handling the projects for delivering sub-standard projects, which has caused national and International debate.
The state government has drawn the attention of the EFCC and ICPC to begin the process to take legal action against the contractor, who executed sub-standard work in Akoko-Edo, particularly the contractor who handled the project on Lawani Street in Igarra.
The 200 meters road project was facilitated by the member representing Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpatason. The project is said to have been fully funded by Federal Government.
