Woman Arrested in Imo Over Alleged Brutal Assault of 13-Year-Old Girl

Police in Imo State have arrested a woman accused of brutally assaulting a 13-year-old girl who was under her care, in a disturbing case that has sparked widespread outrage.

The arrest was disclosed on Thursday by Imo-based journalist and human rights activist Chidiebube Okeoma, who said he led a team of police officers to rescue the battered teenager and apprehend the suspect.

According to Okeoma, the suspect, who is said to be from **Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly subjected the minor to severe physical abuse, inflicting horrific injuries with a stick that reportedly damaged the girl’s eyes.

Videos shared online showed the teenager with both eyes severely swollen shut, highlighting the extent of the alleged abuse and triggering calls for justice.

The victim, who is also from Enugu State, has been taken to a hospital where she is receiving medical treatment.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The incident has drawn condemnation from child rights advocates and members of the public, who are demanding a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of anyone found responsible for the alleged abuse.

The case has also renewed concerns over the safety of children placed under the care of guardians and caregivers, with stakeholders urging authorities to enforce child protection laws and ensure justice for victims of abuse.
