The Edo State Police Command and the State Ministry of Education have stepped up collaboration to strengthen security in schools across the state ahead of the resumption of academic activities.

The move followed a meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, PSC(+), MNIPS, and the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Osifo Washington, Esq., who paid a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Benin City on Wednesday.

The engagement centred on the activation and strengthening of Safe Schools Operations across Edo State, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to protecting students, teachers and other members of the school community.

As part of the new security measures, CP Daaor directed the immediate distribution of the official telephone contacts of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to schools within their jurisdictions.

According to the Police Commissioner, the initiative will give school authorities direct access to security personnel, enabling faster reporting of threats, real-time intelligence sharing and rapid police response to emergencies.

The Police Command and the Ministry of Education also agreed to constitute a joint enquiry and assessment team to inspect schools across the state.

The team will identify security vulnerabilities and potential threats within school environments and recommend appropriate measures to close existing gaps and enhance overall safety.
