Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has suspended all forms of revenue collection across the State. The indefinite suspension affects collections in motor parks and other venues, with immediate effect, and will remain in place pending further directives.
Governor Okpebholo, in a statement released to Uptown Press on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, emphasised that the measure is intended to address public concerns and ensure transparency in revenue management.
The governor noted that all related policies and processes will be reassessed in the coming weeks, after which a new framework for revenue collection will be announced.
As part of the enforcement strategy, the governor directed the Commissioner of Police to apprehend anyone found collecting revenue on behalf of the state government.
“The indefinite suspension of revenue collection in Edo State is part of a broader review of our revenue systems,” the statement read.
“Until a new directive is issued, any individual or organisation found engaging in revenue collection on behalf of the state will be subject to arrest by order of the Commissioner of Police.”
