There was jubilation across Edo Central Senatorial District on Monday as Joseph Ikpea Igiagbe emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary election for Edo Central.
Senator Ikpea secured a landslide victory after polling a total of 20,118 votes in the exercise which was peacefully conducted across the district, further cementing his dominance and widespread acceptance within the APC fold.
The overwhelming outcome triggered celebrations among party faithful, supporters and stakeholders who described the victory as a clear endorsement of Ikpea’s leadership capacity, grassroots appeal and longstanding commitment to the development of Edo Central.
At the conclusion of the exercise, the Returning Officer for the primary election, Hon. Godswill Inegbe, officially declared Senator Ikpea winner of the contest and subsequently presented him with the official result sheet.
The process was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies including the Nigeria Police, APC leaders, party members and supporters who monitored the orderly conduct of the primary.
Party stakeholders said the massive votes recorded in favour of Ikpea reflected the confidence reposed in him by party members and the people of Edo Central ahead of the next senatorial election.
Supporters of the senator expressed optimism that his emergence would further strengthen the APC in the district and guarantee purposeful representation at the National Assembly.
The victory, observers say, has positioned Senator Ikpea as a formidable force as the race for Edo Central Senate seat gathers momentum.
