Edo Govt, League of Women Voters Seal Strategic Alliance to Lift Women Out of Poverty

The Edo State Government has strengthened its drive for inclusive development, forging a strategic partnership with the League of Women Voters of Nigeria to advance women empowerment and accelerate poverty reduction across the State.

The collaboration is designed to enhance grassroots livelihoods, positioning women as central to economic growth and sustainable social development.

Speaking on the initiative, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bisi Idaomi, Esq., reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable populations, particularly women and young girls.
She noted that the Ministry’s interventions—including empowerment programmes, targeted cash transfers, and sustainable support frameworks—are tailored to promote financial independence and reduce poverty.

Dr. Idaomi further explained that the partnership would deepen mentorship and leadership opportunities for women, fostering greater participation in governance and decision-making processes.

“This collaboration underscores our commitment to gender inclusion and long-term socio-economic advancement in Edo State,” she said.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of the League, Anthonia Azagba, Esq., emphasized the critical role of women in the electoral and socio-economic landscape, noting that women constitute a significant voting population.

“We are committed to returning to the grassroots to empower women and youths, enabling them to support their families and rise out of poverty.

We also seek to collaborate with the Ministry in mentorship programmes, especially for young women,” she stated.
Other officials of the League present at the meeting included Assistant Chairperson, Hon. Margaret Ichibor, and Secretary, Obeahon Precious, among others.

Present at the meeting with the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Bisi Idaomi, Esq.; were Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Endurance Adoghe; Director of NGO and Coordinating Partners, Mr. Nesta Efewenkiekie; and Head of the Media Unit, Andrea Olu-Martins.

The partnership marks a significant step in Edo State’s broader agenda to empower women, strengthen community resilience, and drive sustainable poverty alleviation initiatives.
