Onyeka Onwenu, the iconic Nigerian musician fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony in Lagos.
The celebrated artist passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after collapsing at an event held in honor of Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. Onwenu was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja shortly after the incident.
The funeral service for the beloved artiste took place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, where family, friends, and admirers gathered to pay their final respects.
The service was marked by heartfelt tributes, celebrating her extraordinary contributions to the Nigerian music industry and her multifaceted career as a broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist.
Following the service, Onyeka Onwenu was privately buried at a vault in Ikoyi, where only close family members and friends were in attendance.

She is survived by her two sons, who now carry forward the legacy of a woman whose life and work touched countless lives across the nation.
